Non je ne vous ai pas déjà abandonné, bien au contraire, notre aventure ne fait que commencer ! Je vous prépare à la découverte de personnalités aussi différentes qu’intéressantes, des artistes, des aventuriers, des gens un peu loufoques, des têtes en l’air, des terre à terre, des allumés, des passionnés, des explorateurs…. qui ont un point commun : la passion des voyages !
J’ai le plaisir de débuter cette liste avec mon amie Sarah. Rencontrée à San Francisco, elle a été mon coup de coeur amicale. La première Wonderluhster qui entre en scène. Elle a accepté de partager avec vous son expérience d’un an à l’étranger : San Francisco, le Canada et l’Afrique pour finir.
“Il y a maintenant plus d’un an, j’ai eu l’envie de partir pendant une année pour vivre quelque chose de différent, interrompre le quotidien qui semblait déjà bien rangé. Le choix n’était pas simple mais très vite les choses se sont mises en place et j’ai donc décidé de partir 3 mois à San Francisco, 6 mois au Canada et 1 mois en Zambie. Je n’ai pas vraiment médité ces destinations très longtemps mais mes choix se sont plutôt fait sur un coup de tête et un réel coup de coeur pour le projet proposé en Zambie.
C’est vrai qu’à la base j’avais pensé à faire 4 mois à Boston et puis l’Amérique du Sud (que j’adore)... Mais très vite on m’a parlé de San Francisco, plusieurs amies en revenaient avec des étoiles dans les yeux et me ventaient le côté très « open » et artistique de cette ville. Et puis assez bizarrement le Canada est apparu un peu comme une évidence. Je voulais être sûre d’avoir appris l’anglais en rentrant. Je voulais donc éviter l’apprentissage de plusieurs langues sur une courte période (un an ça passe trèèès vite !) mais ce sont surtout les images que j’avais pu apercevoir lors d’une journée d’information au bureau du WEP qui m’ont fait rêver. Des grands espaces, des forêts à perte de vue et ce sentiment de liberté qui s’en dégageait…
J’avais envie de combiner des expériences bien différentes, pour en retirer quelque chose de nouveau à chaque fois.
Et puis l’Afrique… Pour être franche, partir là bas ne m’avait jamais traverser l’esprit ! J’ai toujours trouvé l’Afrique, ses animaux et ses couchers de soleils magiques mais pour des vacances. Je n’avais jamais songer y partir seule pour un projet quelconque. Mais voilà, il se trouve que je me suis retrouvée à parler à une informatrice (toujours du bureau WEP) qui n’avait que ça à la bouche : la Zambie et ses lions. La perspective de me balader avec des lions dans la savane m’a évidemment totalement séduite et j’ai donc dis OUI!
Si l’idée de partir avait toujours été bien présente dans mon esprit, je crois que mes parents y sont pour beaucoup… mordus de voyages et de nouvelles expériences ils n’ont cessé de nous balader autour de notre bonne vieille planète. Mais rendre cette idée aussi concrète que réelle a été possible, entre autres, grâce au WEP.
Alors le WEP est un organisme qui propose l’organisation de voyage dans de nombreux pays. Plus qu’une simple agence de voyage, le WEP propose tout type de projet, allant du séjour linguistique en Angleterre au projet de volontariat dans la forêt amazonienne.
L’équipe est pleine de ressources et de bonnes idées. Elle essaie au mieux de réaliser vos rêves les plus fous. Une des principales raisons pour laquelle je suis partie avec eux c’est que les démarches administratives, prises de billets, etc. sont pris en charge, ce qui facilite énormément l’organisation et allège de beaucoup la perspective de partir. Par contre, j’ai été assez déçue du suivi une fois sur place. A mon arrivée à San Francisco j’ai voulu effectuer quelques changements quant à mon programme et je n’ai clairement pas pu compter sur eux. D’un point de vue positif ça m’a également permis de m’affranchir et de devenir plus autonome.”

No I haven’t left you yet. In fact, our adventure is just beginning. I was looking for peculiar people to let you discover this year ! I want them to be of special interest, or specially gifted. They will be artists, adventurers, a little bit crazy with the head in the air or down-to-earth, all passionate, explorers, charming, courageous, enthusiastic, talented,... Each of them shares a thrilling trend : a passion for journeys!
First of them is my friend Sarah, I’m so happy to start with. I met her in San Francisco, a genuine friend crush ! She’s the first wonderluhster who enters in scene. She’s going to share with you her experience of her one year abroad stay : San Francisco, Canada and finally Africa.
“It has been one year now, since I left to live something different, to make a break in my daily life that seemed already far too well arranged. Choosing destinations was far from being straightforward but things arranged well pretty quickly. So I decided for a 3 months stay in San Francisco, a 6 months stay in Canada and to spend 1 month in Zambia. I didn’t really thought about my destinations during a long time but my choices were made on a whim and a real crush for the project in Zambia.
At first, I wanted to go to Boston for a 4 months stay and then to South America (I love it so much )... But many people around me were speaking delightfully about San Francisco. In the meantime, several friends of mine came back from "Frisco" with stars in their eyes and blowed me with the very open mind and artistic way of the city. And then Canada appeared strangely obvious for me. I wanted to be sure that my English speaking would be near perfect very at the end of this journey. I didn’t want to learn different languages over so short a period of time. But it’s also the pictures I saw during a meeting at the WEP which made me dream about Canada. Broad spaces, forests as far as you can see and a strong feeling of freedom that pours out of some pictures...
Regarding Africa and to be honest, I’ve never thought to go there. Even if I love Africa, its magic sunsets and gorgeous animals… but for holidays. I never thought of living there for a project. In fact, it turns out that I spoke with an informant (still at the office of the WEP) who had only one word in his mind : Zambia and its lions. The perspective to walk around with lions in the savanna did seduced me and I answered a big YES!
Even with the idea of leaving always haunting my mind, I think the influence of my parents is still there and makes the difference. They were both very fond of travelling and loved new experiences so much that they were always trailing me around our good old planet. But to make this dream get the real thing, was only possible with the WEP.
The WEP is an organization, which goal is to plan journeys in different countries all around the world. Acting much further than a next door travel agency, the WEP offers a lot of different projects ranging from language study holidays in England to voluntary projects in the rainforest in Amazonia.
Their team is full of resources and good ideas. It tries its best to realize your craziest dreams. The reason why I decided to go with them was that they take in charge the whole administrative and logistic stuff. That let you the time to focus yourself about many other stuffs before your departure.
On the other hand, I was disappointed by their follow-up once there. Upon my arrival in San Francisco, I wanted to make some changes on my planned schedule and I couldn’t rely on them at all. From a positive point of view, that allowed me to become more autonomous…”
